Redemption
After my humiliating cable debacle, I've been redeemed. Today, I phoned a hotel in Tbilisi, Georgia and made a reservation. For four rooms. Two singles. Two doubles. All in Russian.
I probably shouldn't be patting myself on the back quite yet. Knowing my less than perfect language skills, we may show up to discover I made reservations for 2010. But for now, I'm feeling pretty proud of myself.
This will be my first trip to Georgia. We are spending a night in Tbilisi and then taking a two-hour ride up into the mountains where my skis will make their season debut on the slopes of Gudauri. After getting so much use last year in Utah they are feeling very neglected.
And yes, this is the Georgia that had a little "war" this past August. But I've seen that James Bond ski chase. If he can evade the bad guys on skis, why can't I? Just need to remember to pack my parachute for the cliff jumps.
