Sick. Again.

Two nights ago I woke up in the middle of the night with an insanely intense calf cramp. I started screaming and nearly scared Liam out of bed. Although the cramp subsided, my stomach was making all sorts of gurgles and was clearly unhappy. Around 4:00 in the morning, I began what would be a night in the bathroom. It is what we euphemistically call "Baku Belly."

I decided I wasn't going to be a wimp, would drink lots of water, and go to work. But after 2 glasses of water and a cup of tea, I felt the nausea. I made a run for the bathroom and tossed my cookies in the sink. My boss, who is in the office next to me, I am sure very much enjoyed the morning soundtrack.

I was so rattled that I immediately went to the embassy nurse. She did some tests and I was severely dehydrated. So she hooked me up to an IV and I spent the afternoon in the medical clinic re-hydrating.

Today I am much better. I have no idea whether it was a stomach flu or some kind of food poisoning. But when you are in the middle of retching it doesn't much matter. Today I've kept down a banana and a piece of coffee cake. Progress!

You can make tea with fresh ginger, just grate it and boil then strain. It's really yummy and works well for nausea.
