What is Coaching?
Coaching is a goal-oriented partnership where your personal, interpersonal, and professional development is maximized to its full potential. You are the expert in your life and the coach is a resource for ideas, encouragement, problem-solving frameworks, and accountability. Coaching differs from therapy, mentoring, and consulting. The primary goal is to create effective methods of accomplishing specific achievements, in which you are trusted to generate your own solutions.
My job, as your coach, is to inspire thought-provoking growth and self-awareness in you through objective assessment, active listening, challenging ideas, and encouragement. You are in control of creating goals and incorporating the my assessments and observation; having a vision; and utilizing tools provided by the coach (me) to bring the vision to life. You'll reach your full potential and reap all the benefits of coaching when you’re focused on yourself, observant, willing to challenge current thought processes and behaviors, open to change, forgiving of yourself, and committed to your goals.
The alliance typically lasts between three and six months depending on the your needs. Coach-client compatibility is the your decision. One should select a coach whom he/she feels would be a good fit. A good fit can be determined by communication style, approach to accomplishing goals, and flexibility. An interview is usually how the process begins, followed by assessments to determine the your goals and progress evaluation. Next, the coach provides you with a foundation for reaching your goals. This incorporates the use of concepts, models, and principles from various educational resources and cultural traditions. Coaching is tailored to meet clients’ needs, so each individual is encouraged to approach personal opportunities and challenges based on what works for him/her.
